Early Years
Our youngest pupils in Reception class, follow the Early Years Curriculum. As well as an extensive indoor space, children have free-flow access to their own dedicated outdoor area where they can participate in a range of exciting learning activities. Pupils are taught through a creative, exploratory approach and participate in their learning by offering suggestions for themes and activities. Much of the learning in Early Years is through play-based independent learning. Teacher-led sessions e.g. daily Phonics and Maths sessions, and RE, follow planned, sequential schemes of work .
Children in Early Years, also have the opportunity to experience weekly Forest School sessions. This is an inspirational process, that offers all learners the opportunity to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.
The Early Years Curriculum is divided into 7 main areas as follows:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Expressive Arts and Design
- Understanding the World
